The Weather is Great So Why Are the Fields Closed?
Date Posted: 3/3/2015
The weather can be nice but the fields can be too wet to play on without doing significant damage to the turf, particularly the shallow roots of bermuda. The fields are physically checked by both P&R and CJSF staff before a decision is made to close a field. Parks and Rec are the ultimate controllers over what fields are open or closed. There is usually a dialogue between CJSF and P&R so we do have a "vote" in the process.
CJSF has a great reputation with P&R for both respecting their field closure decisions and protecting the fields from serious damage. Cleats can do significant damange to wet fields, pulling up the grass by the roots. If CJSF, or any group that rents fields from the county, ignores their directives, we put our entire reservation in jeopardy. And none of us want to do that.
So thank you for resisting temptation and not playing on closed fields, even when the sun is out and skies are blue.
